West Edmonton is the quadrant of the City of Edmonton that has sustained and grown for the life of the city. It is bordered by the famous North Saskatchewan River to its south, 111 Avenue to the north, 124 Street to the east and the city limits west of it. Edmonton’s west end is a dynamic mix of residential, commercial, light industrial and even heavy industrial. It’s an area of the city that is recognized for leading design approaches in communities, which reduces pressures on infrastructure and industry growth.

Discover West Edmonton Real Estate

Some of Edmonton’s largest and most desirable neighbourhoods thrive in this quadrant, and they are beacons of the cycles of strong growth this city as seen in its hundred-year history.

The more mature neighbourhoods near the core offer quaint tree-lined avenues and character homes at all price points. These areas are prime opportunities for move-up luxury home buyers, as well as investors. At the same time, new entrants to west Edmonton’s real estate marketplace will also find options in Edmonton’s west end real estate, empty nesters and investors.

From the thriving 124th Street District to West Edmonton Mall — the west end is packed full of eclectic art galleries, specialty shops, cozy coffee houses, impressive restaurants, trendy lounges as well as outstanding entertainment!

Sample macarons from Duchess Bakeshop, perhaps Canada’s best patisserie according to the National Post; shop local on High Street; examine eons-old gems at the Royal Alberta Museum; or enjoy a night of hilarity at The Comic Strip, located on West Edmonton Mall’s Bourbon Street.

This district is also rich in history and houses the Glenora Bed & Breakfast Inn, once home to city pilot and First World War flying ace Wop May. Soak up some stunning architecture with a scenic drive or stroll past the elegant Edwardian and early 20th Century brick mansions that line Wellington, Tweedsmuir and St. George’s Crescents and Connaught Drive.

  • The Royal Alberta Museum — One of Canada’s five most popular museums, the “RAM” is home to a variety of fascinating permanent and visiting exhibitions, including the celebrated Syncrude Gallery of Aboriginal Culture, one of the largest explorations of First Peoples’ history on the continent, with stories spanning 11,000 years and 500 generations!

  • TELUS World of Science-Edmonton — Collect clues like a CSI, discover the inner workings of the human body or chat with a life-size robot in one of the many interactive displays at this space and science centre. This attraction also features an astronomical observatory, the largest planetarium in Canada and Western Canada’s first IMAX theatre!

  • The Edmonton Valley Zoo — Nestled in the heart of the River Valley, this zoo contains more than 350 animals including an endangered Peregrine Falcon, a Snow Leopard and the new Polar Extremes exhibit that gives visitors an up-close view of seals, sea lions and arctic foxes. The strong conservation focus of the zoo is evident in its inspiring exhibits and educational programs.

  • West Edmonton Mall — With more than 800 retail stores, 100 eating establishments and 10 world-class theme park attractions — including Galaxyland amusement park, the tropical World Waterpark and the Ice Palace skating rink — there’s always something new and exciting to discover at North America’s largest entertainment and shopping centre!

  • 124 Street District — This charming area is home to art galleries, specialty and antique stores, fashion boutiques and fabulous eateries. The wide ranging group of art galleries in the area collaborate to offer a Gallery Walk twice a year, and seasonal exhibits that focus on work by Canadian artists.
